Snook: These hard-fighting fish are a favorite among Crystal River anglers. Known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps, snook will test your skills and your gear. They love to hang around structure like mangrove roots and dock pilings. The biggest ones, which we call "gator" snook, can top 40 inches and put up a fight you'll never forget. Spring and fall are prime times for snook fishing, but we catch them year-round in these parts.
Sea Trout: Also known as speckled trout, these fish are a staple of inshore fishing in Florida. They're known for their spotted bodies and delicate flavor. Sea trout are often found over grass flats and can be caught using a variety of techniques. One of the most exciting ways to catch them is with topwater lures at dawn or dusk - there's nothing like seeing a trout explode on a surface plug! While they average 1-3 pounds, gator trout over 5 pounds are not uncommon in our waters.
Redfish: These copper-colored beauties are a blast to catch. They're known for their distinctive spot near the tail and their hard-pulling fights. Redfish love to cruise the shallows, often with their tails sticking out of the water as they hunt for crabs and small fish. This "tailing" behavior makes for some exciting sight-fishing opportunities. In the Crystal River area, we catch reds year-round, with fall being particularly good as schools of big bull reds move into the area.
Alright, folks, if you're itching to get out on the water and tangle with some of Crystal River's finest fish, it's time to lock in your trip. Captain Misty's calendar fills up fast, especially during peak seasons. Whether you're looking to catch your first redfish or you're after that trophy snook, this trip's got you covered. Remember, everything's included - rods, reels, bait, and even cold drinks. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure and maybe a lucky hat. So what are you waiting for? Give Captain Misty a call and let's make some fishing memories! Just don't forget - bragging rights are guaranteed, but fish stories are on you!

Redfish are one of our most popular targets here. They usually run 28-33 inches when full grown, but can get much bigger offshore. You'll find them in super shallow water - sometimes with their backs out of the water! They love hanging around oyster bars, grass flats, and mangroves. Fall is prime time when they school up. Anglers love redfishing for the sight-casting opportunities and strong fights. They're also excellent eating. I like to use gold spoons or scented soft plastics. Here's a local trick - look for their tails sticking up as they feed in shallow water. Cast beyond them and slowly retrieve your lure past their nose. When you see that wake coming after it, hold on tight!
Sea trout, or speckled trout as we call 'em, are a blast to catch. Most run 14-24 inches and a couple pounds, but the big gators can hit 5 pounds or more. You'll find them in grass flats and shallow waters, especially at night. They love to school up in deeper channels when it gets cold. Spring and fall are great seasons to target them. Folks enjoy sea trout fishing because they're abundant, put up a good fight, and taste delicious. I like to use soft plastic jigs or topwater plugs. A local tip - try drifting live shrimp under a popping cork. When you hear that pop, get ready! Sea trout have soft mouths, so set the hook gently or you might tear it out.
Snook are one of the coolest fish we target around here. They usually run 1-2 feet long but can get up to 4 feet. You'll find them hanging around mangroves, docks, and other structure in both saltwater and freshwater. Spring and fall are prime snook seasons when the water's warming up or cooling down. Folks love chasing snook because they put up an incredible fight and taste great too. They're ambush predators, so I like to use lures that mimic their prey - things like soft plastic swimbaits or topwater plugs work well. One local trick is to fish the outgoing tide around points or creek mouths. The snook will set up to ambush bait getting swept out with the current. Just remember to use a leader - those gill plates are sharp!
